I have been really surprised by the exceptionally poor customer support for Google Adwords. First, every time I speak on the phone with a rep, I feel like I'm buying a used car. Second, they are very unhelpful and don't seem to care at all that they aren't helping. When I have told them I was frustrated, their response has been, "OK" and then silence. I really have a hard time understanding why their customer service is so poor when they are going to face increasing competition from facebook and other sites. I've been testing out the waters on a small project before moving my business advertising over and now don't think there is anyway I'm going to use Google for this. Its not worth the headache. I've learned through the years that customer service is worth paying a premium for.

Great post Andy. You have answered a couple of questions there were in my mind. I am going to give this a go to see what the response will be like.

Beware, too - it can get even worse.

I've found out from painful experience that the UK & Ireland AdWords team has a habit of banning small advertisers on a whim with no warning and then refusing to discuss why.

My advice: use marketing channels that actually care about their customers.

Congrats to Top Villas on their increase of enquires and (hopefully!) sales. Thanks for highlighting the importance of being available outside of standard working hours, as you say, many don't realise how many calls they would actually recieve outside of the usual 9-5. Missed calls = missed opporunities. I'm glad Top Villas are happy with their service!

Andy

Great stuff as usual and very timely. I have recently had my site upgraded and will be sending out a regular missive via Mail Chimp, so the facility of being able to 'track' who is going to the site and other useful information is quite handy.
Thanks
